Previously on Dragon Quest

This will be a short and sweet post.

I recently started playing Dragon Quest XI. I am enjoying it immensely. Aside from playing Dragon Warrior on the NES, this is my only other Dragon Quest experience.

Dragon Quest XI has one feature that blows my ever-loving mind. When loading a saved game, it displays a screen with a synopsis of everything you’ve done in the game up to that point.

Like TV from the 80’s when the announcer person would start a show by saying, “Previously on Hardcastle and McCormick” and then you’d be treated to a thirty second recap in case you weren’t at home during Primetime TV. (Remember when we used to bow to TV’s schedule, instead of the other way around?)

This is a brilliant addition to a video game. I can’t tell you how many games I’ve play to the 10 hour mark, had to live “real life” for a while and by the time I make it back to the game I have no idea what I’ve done or what I’m heading to do. Dragon Quest XI takes care of that for me. And if I don’t need the recap, a quick tap of a button skips it for me. Brilliant! I want this feature in every game that will ever be released. I want it retroactively inserted into every game that has ever been.

Surely that’s not too tall of an order. Right?

Sincerely,

The storyteller
